AMI

AMI (Aminaia) identified with a site near Francavilla Marrittima in the territory of Sybaris (Kraay 1976).
Sometimes the letters are read as ASI or ISA (Catalli 1995).
AMI could refer to the Aminaioi, a people of Thessalian origin. According to an ancient authority they brought
to Italy the type of vine which subsequently bore their name.
The site of these Aminaioi could be at Timpone della Motta, about 14 km north-west of the ancient mouth of the
river Crathis and destroyed at the same time as Sybaris itself (Rutter 1997).
