           The name comes  from the wild celery.

480-409 BC allied with Syracusa against Carthago and Segesta
415 BC     Pro-Athene. Segesta threatened by Selinous asked the Athenians for help, but Athenians defeated by Syracusa. 
409 BC     sacked by Hannibal asked for help by Segesta (border quarrels)
           walls partially destroyed
409-407 BC Hermocrates exile from Syracusa walled part of the city
407-276 BC Selinus under the dominion of Carthago, established in treaties with
           Dionysius (405), Timoleon (339), Agathocles (314).
317 BC     among this time Selinous is subjected to the Syracusan supremacy
307 BC     among this time Selinous is subjected to the Syracusan supremacy
278-277 BC or 276-276 BC Selinus joined Pyrrhus
250 BC     Carthaginians destroyed the city and moved the inhabitants to Lilybaeum.
