Uria was probably situated on the Cagnano shore. Said to be swallowed by the sea (the present Lago di Varano). According to the legend another Hyria, situated on the Salentine peninsula, was a Cretan foundation (Herodotus), which maybe inspired by the many Mycenaean finds in the neighbourhood. Became later a Roman colony. Mentioned by Strabo and Pliny.
